Chapter four is about reading critically, which I learned is different from evaluating. Many times people do not understand the source they are getting their facts from, but if you critically read the source you are really thinking about what s being said. Usually when writing a paper your opinion on the issue is different from what you expected it to be due to critically reading about your issue or topic and can result in a strong thesis statement. Chapter four talks about reading with an attitude, which I've never heard of however, I feel like you can get the best results out of a source when you approach it with a position already in mind. Marking the sources that you find is very helpful in the future when you are writing your paper and can't remember why that quote or section was important to you. As long as you can go back and make sense of whatever it is that was important can only make for a better paper. Another important point that chapter four talks about is being able to identify different sources. Primary sources like are poems, stories, essays, diaries, interviews, speeches, records, photos, etc.
Secondary sources comment on primary sources interpreting it in their own eyes, which isn't always good if you have to many secondary sources. I knew that there were different type of sources but I never thought about how non-effective it is to rely on secondary sources because it prevents you from making your own analysis. Also, I learned that you should read a source three times at first I thought who would really read it over three times. But then I realized that we do is subconsciously when we are deciding why we even looked at the source in the first place.
